YOU WILL SEE MANY SECOND HAND HOUSES MADE BY OTHER BUILDERS WHICH IS MAINLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY OF THEM MADE AND THEIR LACK OF DETAIL WHICH RESULTS IN THE OWNERS BECOMING BORED WITH THEM. MY HOUSES ARE SO DETAILED AND EACH ONE IS BUILT USING APPROX 2500 INDIVIDUALLY HAND CRAFTED PIECES WHICH MEANS THAT EACH TIME YOU STUDY ONE OF MY HOUSES YOU WILL ALMOST ALWAYS NOTICE SOMETHING YOU HADN’T NOTICED BEFORE.

THE PHOTOS SHOWING A FURNISHED HOUSE ARE NOT PHOTOS OF THE HOUSE I AM SELLING BUT OF A PREVIOUS CUSTOMERS HOUSE TO SHOW EXAMPLES OF WHAT FURNISHED ROOMS CAN LOOK LIKE.

Pilgrim’s Rest

When I decided that I was going to bring a house over to Dallas to exhibit at the Texas Miniature Showcase I was determined to create a new house with some new and exclusive features , and the result is the “Pilgrims Rest” in which I have managed to build something that I am very proud of.

This house has a base size of 33″w x 20″d, with the overall house size being 36″ w x 22″ d x 48″ h.

There are a total of 7 rooms, accessed by way of lift off panels, 6 to the front, and 1 to the right hand roof gable.

There are approx 46 working lights, plus 3, triple arm chandeliers in the roof spaces, and 3 working fires, all operated by remote control.

All of my houses incorporate certain elements that I class as standard which include, solid wooden floors and beams, hand sculptured roofs, paving and chimneys, exposed brick work panels to the outside of the chimney, hand made leaded light windows, aged and weathered exterior walls, simulated pegged timber frame joints, fully finished access panels, and all of my houses are numbered, signed and dated on the back.

Some of the features that I have incorporated into the “Pilgrims Rest” include:

  1. The house sits on a brick plinth made with real individually fixed brick slips, with 2 sets of entrance steps leading to the ground floor level.
  2. The lights to each room are wired on individual circuits, so that you can choose which rooms, or combination of rooms to light up, including lights in the rear corridors and the stairwell and balcony. The chandeliers are also on a separate circuit so you can choose whether to have them on with the wall lights, or to use just the chandeliers, or just the wall lights. All of this is complimented by the use of a full remote control system, which can operate each circuit and can dim them as required.
The remote control circuit board has 24 output points, with some not being used which means you can easily connect your own lamps etc and have them work via the remote control hand set.
  3. The fireplaces on the ground and first floors have concealed lights up inside them, and all 3 fireplaces come complete with a fire which includes a working red fire bulb which, again can be operated with the remote control.
  4. The left hand top floor lift off access panel, is a double height panel, providing unrestricted access to the main feature of the house, which is the “Great Hall”, this is a magnificent double height room, opening out into the roof space which has exposed roof timbers. This room will make a fantastic banqueting hall, and looks great with a long table, suits of armour and tapestries etc.
  5. The banqueting hall features a real stone fireplace, the design of which is made exclusively for KJ Dollshouses, by Gavin Poyner, of Dolls House Fireplaces. To compliment the fireplace I have fitted a metal coat of arms above it, along with 4 colourful authentic shields high up on the back wall.
  6. Solid oak half height wall panelling to the Great Hall and the room adjoining it.
  7. Several mouse holes dotted around the house, some with their own friendly resident mice.
  8. There is a “Salamander” built into the outside of the chimney which was used to ward of the danger of fire in Tudor times.
  9. The house comes complete with a feature twisted effect castellated terra cotta chimney pot.
  10. The house also has 2 hanging signs, which can be printed with what ever text the customer specifies.
  11. The hanging baskets and brackets, fitted to the house, are also included.
  12. I have incorporated a new bracket detail to the internal corners in each room, along with a new decorative detail beneath each internal window sill.
  13. This is the most detailed house I have built to date, with more than 300 hand made brackets and wooden pegs fitted to it.
  14. The use of very ornate timber mould to the barge boards, door frames and around the feature windows to the 2 top front lift off panels.
  15. For the very first time I have fitted a plate rack in the ground floor room which has the fireplace, along with a hanging rail in the fire itself, ( including hanging hooks and copper pans) so this room now lends itself to being used in a variety of ways, a shop, a working kitchen or an inn.
  16. To get your collection started the house also comes with a hand made tudor handcart, a few barrels and a water pump trough.

Deluxe Canterbury

I always try to build a special house to bring along to exhibit at shows such as KDF, and I think I have managed to do that with this deluxe version of my “Canterbury” house type.

This house has a base size of 920mm x 500mm

The overall dimensions of the house are 1070mm w x 590mm d x 1070mm h.

There are a total of 7 rooms, accessed by Way of lift off panels, 6 to the front, and 1 to the right hand roof gable.

There are approx 36 working lights, plus 3, triple arm chandeliers in the roof spaces.

Some of the features that I have incorporated into the “Deluxe Canterbury” include:

  1. The lights to each floor are wired on individual circuits, so that you can choose which floors, or combination of floors to light up. The chandeliers are also on a separate circuit so you can choose whether to have them on with the wall lights, or to use just the chandeliers, or just the wall lights.
  2. The fireplaces on the ground and first floors have concealed lights up inside them, and all 3 fireplaces come complete with a fire which comes complete with a working red fire bulb.

  5. There is a lions head water fountain detail fixed beneath the external balcony on the ground floor.
  6. The house comes complete with a feature “Fleur-de-lis” terra cotta chimney pot.
  7. The house also has 2 hanging signs, which can be printed with what ever text the customer specifies,

The Tudor Rose

The Tudor Rose was the result of a commissioned order that I received when I exhibited at the Kensington Dollshouse Festival in December 2010.

The customer combined features from a Rochester house type, and a Canterbury, along with some very specific ideas she had, and the result was the “Tudor Rose”, the name of which was also chosen by the customer who commissioned it, the result of which is a truly stunning detailed house.

The approx overall dimensions of the Tudor Rose are: 620mm deep x 1000mm wide x 1200mm high.

Approx base size is 560mm deep x 950mm wide.

There are a total of 7 rooms in the Tudor Rose, accessed by a total of 6 lift off front panels and 1 triangular gable side panel.

One of the main and most spectacular features of the Tudor Rose, is the Grand Hall, which is a 2 storey high room in the the top 2 floors on the left hand isde of the house, accessed via a magnificent 9 panel feature window. The Grand Hall is approx 500mm wide x 520mm deep and 540mm high. This will look amazing when furnished as a banqueting hall, complete with wall tapestries and suits of armour.

In addition to the 41 working wall and concealed chimney and roof lights, there are an additional 3 chandeliers. As with all of my houses each floor is wired independently so you can choose which floors to light at any one time, in addition to this the 3 chandeliers are also wired independently to provide even more lighting options.

A brick plinth is standard on the Tudor Rose, as to is the hand painted Tudor Rose/Oakleaf panel on the ground floor external recess.

My customer specifically wanted to make her house an Apothecary, with a storage room in the loft room to the right hand side of the house, so hence the arched door complete with rope and lifting crate detail in the side gable panel. This is optional and can be made as a panel with a window in it if required.

The Tudor Rose also comes with 2 hanging signs with the wording of your choice on them, and up to 6 hanging basket brackets. (More can be added at an extra charge).

My customer supplied the water feature that is situated beneath the external stairs, along with the stone fireplace in the Grand Hall. I can supply and fit either of these at an additional charge. I have managed to agree the supply of an exclusive design stone fireplace surround, from Gavin Poyner, of www.dollshousefireplace.com which I can supply and fit.

I have incorporated a “salamander” into the render on the outside of the chimney, which is something they use to do to ward of the danger of fire back in Tudor times.

There is approx 150mm of paved area to the front of the house and 230mm to the right hand side, to provide amble space to create a street scene or market stall, should you wish to, along with a wide front and side balcony area to the first floor, providing space for figures to be placed.

The very detailed feature chimney pot is also included as standard on the Tudor Rose.

The KENSINGTON

Overall base size: 1060mm wide x 560mm deep

Overall house size: 1100mm wide x 640mm deep x 1100mm high

The Kensington is by far the largest house I have built to date, and was built specifically for the first show I exhibited at, the 2010 Kensington Dollshouse Festival, hence the name of the house being “Kensington”.

Everything about this house has been done on a grand scale, and will provide the miniaturist who buys one ample opportunity to enjoy their passion for their hobby.

Including the spaces leading off from the feature central staircase, there are a total of 12 rooms, accessed by way of 12 lift off panels, 10 rectangular ones to the front, one triangular gable panel to the front, and a triangular gable panel to either end of the house.

There are a total of approx 70 working lights, including 3 Tudor style chandeliers in the roof space. The chandeliers have been wired via a seperate circuit to the wall lights and concealed roof lights in the roof space, so you can choose to light this area by way of either type of lights or by both at the same time.

Some of the Kensington’s features include:

  1. As in all of my houses, the lights on each floor of the house are wired independently so that you can choose which floors you want to light at any one time, and in what ever combination. The Kensington has the lights on each floor split between the left and right side of the house, so that you have even more lighting combinations.
  2. The fireplaces on the ground and first floor not only have concealed lights inside them, but also have sockets for you to be able to connect working fires.
  3. The roof space is a magnificent feature of the house, formed in a “cathedral” style, which extends the whole length of the house, and can be viewed from both ends of the house and from the centre roof panel.
  4. The central staircase is also another impressive feature of the house, with a stairwell which runs from the ground floor to the roof space, and which is lit all the way through.
  5. I have introduced a much more detailed window style, which not only has a horizontal mullion forming a more authentic looking fanlight style window, but also includes rectangular leaded light glazing.
  6. There is ample space on the surrounding paved areas to the front and side of the house, to enable you to bring you passion for miniatures, from the inside to the outside of the house.
